Lundby between village history and the Lundby family route

Lundby reveals its character through the interplay of a linear village, church, village pond and preserved traces of buildings and crafts. Old Lundby is a winding linear village. Its central area around the church, the riding school and the village pond is defined by farms and houses standing directly along the road. This creates a villagescape in which the village structure and its history are immediately connected.

The Lundby family route between meadow and forest

The Lundby family route begins at a car park by Svend-Gønge School, opposite Ibsvej, at Sværdborgvej 7–9, 4750 Lundby. From this starting point, it passes an open meadow with many wildflowers and continues to a small woodland area with climbing trees. For you, the route is particularly interesting because of its sequence: the starting point is followed by meadow landscape and forest. Anyone wishing to combine nature observation and exercise during their stay will find a path here with varied landscapes. Open and wooded sections alternate along the route; the meadow is characterised by many wildflowers, while the woodland area is characterised by climbing trees.

The riding school and the village centre

In the central area, next to the church, stands the former riding school from 1725. It houses community rooms for the parish. Its former purpose and present-day use should be considered separately: the building is historic as a riding school dating from 1725, while its current function is to provide community rooms. Together with the church and the village pond, it shapes the central area of Old Lundby.

Lundbygård and its farm complex

Lundbygård provides another architectural focal point. The building is listed; its main building was erected in 1806. Another characteristic feature is the octagonal courtyard, around which the main building and the farm wings are arranged. The farm wings and the main building are arranged together around the octagonal courtyard. For you, it is not only the construction date that is relevant here, but also the arrangement of the buildings: the courtyard forms the centre, while the main building and farm wings surround it.

The Old Lundby Brickworks

The Old Lundby Brickworks also combines history with a status that remains in effect: it is still in operation. The brickworks are located on the site of the original Lundbygård. Lundby Tegl was founded in 1868.

Romanesque and Late Gothic elements at Lundby Church

Lundby Church itself has a Romanesque chancel and a Romanesque nave. Late Gothic additions are present in the form of a tower, a porch and a sacristy. The tower, porch and sacristy are the Late Gothic additions to the church building. The church interior also contains a probably Late Romanesque granite baptismal font bearing the signature “BONDO FRIS ME FECIT”. It is precisely the combination of Romanesque architectural elements, later additions and the individual baptismal font that makes the church interesting for visitors interested in architectural history and the details of sacred spaces. For you, it is therefore worth looking both at the large architectural forms and at this signed historic detail.
