Kostræde Banker forms a distinctly hilly dead-ice landscape. For you as a traveller, this terrain shapes your first impression: Open spaces and rising sections define the character of the area. At Kostræde Banker, the elevations reach approximately 20 metres and lie around 15 metres above the surrounding terrain. This approximate elevation gives you an objective measure of the rise. In the northern, coastal part of Kostræde Banker, salt marshes facing the fjord lie along Dybsø Fjord. Kviemarken is a natural area with the habitat types salt marsh and nutrient-rich lowland fen. Kostræde Banke is a dry grassland area grazed year-round as part of nature conservation. At the northern end of Kostræde Banker lies a privately protected area that forms the last remnant of the original open landscape that once covered the entire bank. Thus, at the bank you will encounter both a dry grassland area shaped by nature conservation and the remaining part of the former open landscape.

Nature observation at the fjord

The protected area at Dybsø Fjord also includes land near Kostræde Banke. From the viewpoint at the northern end of Kostræde Banker, you can observe the birds at Dybsø Fjord and in the adjacent wetland. If you are focusing your visit on observing nature, your attention will therefore be directed not only towards the fjord, but also towards the birds and the wetland.

At Kostræde bakker, you can park at a small boat landing and walk uphill to a viewpoint with tables and benches. From the small boat landing just before Kostræde Banker, a path that forms part of Sjællandsleden leads uphill to the viewpoint. If you are travelling on foot, this section of the path can be combined with a visit to the viewpoint.

From the viewpoint near Kostræde bakker, you have a view of the fjord and the meadow. The view combines the elevated location with two clear landscape features. In this way, the path from the boat landing has a visible destination where you can observe the surroundings from an elevated perspective.

Historical connection to Kostræde Banke

Køng Mølle once stood on Kostræde Banke. The former mill site adds a historical connection to today’s impressions of the landscape without separating Kostræde Banke from its natural character. If you would like to combine nature and the past, this aspect forms part of the area’s history.
