Svenstrup: Beach and Trails on the Great Belt

South of Korsør on the Great Belt, Svenstrup Beach is a broad sandy beach with shallow water. The beach lies below a coastal bluff and has both sandy and stony seabed. From here, views stretch across the Great Belt towards Funen and Langeland. This combination of open water, beach and changing seabed gives the coastal stretch a distinct maritime character.

Getting to and finding your way around the beach

Svenstrup Beach can be reached via Svenstrup Strandvej; a path leads from the car park to the beach. The Slagelse Municipality has installed a bathing jetty at Svenstrup Beach. Svenstrup Beach has also been awarded the Blue Flag. The access route therefore connects the road, the car park and the path leading down to the shore.

Water experiences in different seasons

The water off Svenstrup Beach is suitable for after-work diving with friends or family. The fine sandy seabed at Svenstrup Beach offers opportunities to catch flatfish in autumn. For trip planning, this means that both a shared experience in the water and a seasonal coastal aspect can take centre stage.

Hiking trails through woodland and hilly terrain

A hike from Frølunde to Svenstrupgård follows paths through the preserved woodland of the former royal estate. Another hike from Frølunde led via Svenstrup Bjerg, along the fields by Svenstrup Strandvej and along Svenstrup Beach, returning to Frølunde through Violvejsparken. On the hike near Svenstrupgård, views open across hills and valleys to the Great Belt. On one hike, you climb Spejderbjerget, also called Svenstrup Bjerg, beneath blossoming cherry trees. In the area around Svenstrup, a path in Rødhøjlund Skov runs from the junction with Drosselvej over a small bridge to Rødhøjvej.

Historic traces and open landscapes

The protected Rundhøj near Svenstrup is classified as a prehistoric round barrow. The Langhøj near Svenstrup is a well-preserved long barrow in an open landscape. Deer and a diverse birdlife can be found among the grassy fields of Svenstrupgård. East of Korsør, in a field between the railway line and the motorway behind Svenstrup, you can see a distinctive long dolmen and a round dolmen; the two monuments are not accessible. In the area around Svenstrup, Rødhøjlund Skov is a nature campsite between Svenstrup and Korsør.

Svenstrup in the wider coastal context

Svenstrup Beach can serve as a stopover on a circular tour along the coast of western Zealand. Coastal stretch S4.07 extends from Korsør Skov to Svenstrup, includes Sprogø, is approximately 38 kilometres long and lies within Slagelse Municipality.
