Boeslunde Between Gold Finds, a Spring and Landscapes

Church, Spring and Traces of the Middle Ages

A central point of cultural and historical interest is Boeslunde Church. Its baptismal font dates from the 13th century and probably came from the earlier church at this site. The church also preserves remnants of medieval choir stalls. The southern row dates from the 15th century, while the northern row dates from around 1510–1520. The baptismal font therefore belongs to an earlier period than either of the two surviving rows.

North of Boeslunde Church lies Hellig Kors Kilde. In the Middle Ages, the spring was a heavily visited holy spring, and today it is marked as a protected site by a structure measuring approximately 4 × 4 metres, surrounded by a stone enclosure and featuring an oak pump reinforced with iron. During the 2025 excavation, three iron lances were found at the edge of the spring, two of them decorated with gold inlays. The excavation also located a spring directly beneath a remarkable concentration of deposited Bronze Age gold objects. The protected site and the archaeological findings belong to different periods in the history of the place.

Gold Find, Burial Mound and Boeslunde Mindepark

The Boeslunde gold find comprises five solid gold oath rings and six gold bowls. These objects were deposited in the Late Bronze Age between 1000 and 800 BC. The five arm rings and six bowls represent two different types of finds. The nearby burial mound Brakhøj has a diameter of approximately 30 metres and is 6.5 metres high. As a burial mound, Brakhøj complements the gold objects with a large, fixed monument in the landscape.

In Boeslunde Mindepark, also known as Borgbjergs Banke, the remains of a 14th-century medieval castle lie beneath the grounds. In 1939, Borgbjergs Banke was transformed into an amphitheatre by landscape architect C.Th. Sørensen. The natural amphitheatre serves as a venue for concerts. The 1939 transformation therefore took place significantly later than the medieval castle.

The natural attractions of Boeslunde include the Boeslunde Shelters. They provide shelters and a fire pit for overnight stays outdoors. The open landscape of fields, meadows and woodland offers varied impressions; long walks and observing nature suit this landscape.
