Harbor, Fishing Village and Maritime Tradition

Grebbestad is still a vibrant fishing village, combining everyday maritime culture with historical traces and experiences on the water. At the fish reception facility in the harbor, trawlers from Grebbestad and the surrounding fishing villages deliver their catches, especially crayfish and shrimp. A walk along Strandvägen continues to Grebbestadsbryggan at the guest harbor. Older buildings have also been preserved between Lower and Upper Långgatan. The waterfront route and the streets with older buildings show different sides of the town: harbor operations and the town center.

Prehistoric Sites Around Grebbestad

Those interested in the region's past will find two notable sites near Grebbestad. The stone labyrinth at Ulmekärr is the best-preserved labyrinth in Bohuslän. The stone-built labyrinth is of unknown age but probably prehistoric. Another historical dimension is represented by the Greby burial ground near Grebbestad: it comprises almost 200 graves dating from AD 200 to 600 and is one of the most significant prehistoric sites in Bohuslän. Ulmekärr and Greby thus represent two different historical forms: a stone-built structure and a burial ground with almost 200 graves.

Rocks, Heathland and Hiking Trails

The landscape around Grebbestad also offers a clear contrast between rocks, heathland, and sand. In the nearby Tjurpannan Nature Reserve, bare rocks and heathland dominate. The area is easy to explore on foot and offers beautiful views. For a nature-focused stay, these areas are clearly different from Grebbestad's family-friendly beaches with sandy shores, jetties, and diving platforms. A bus runs from Grebbestad to Saltviks Camping, which borders the Tjurpannan Nature Reserve. Another specific hiking option is the Falkeröd Trail. It is approximately 3 km long and begins at Falkeröds Hembygdsgård north of Grebbestad.

Beaches and Experiences on the Water

For active days on the water, Skärgårdsidyllen Kayak & Outdoor in Grönemad, Grebbestad, rents out kayaks and SUP boards. A full-day sea kayaking tour also begins in Grönemad and takes you around the islands off Grebbestad. Both offerings use Grönemad as their starting point, but differ in format: equipment rental is offered alongside a full-day tour following a set route around the islands.

Fishing, Oysters and Coastal Life

Fishing is also part of the coastal culture. Visitors can join fishing trips in Grebbestad and help haul traps for lobster, Norway lobster, and crab. Oysters are also part of the local coastal culture: Every May, the Oyster Academy organizes the Nordic Oyster Opening Championships in Grebbestad.
