Discover Bredsten: Hiking Trail, Church and Vingsted
When you choose Bredsten as a travel destination, hiking experiences, church history and Iron Age culture meet a landscape with a lake, forest and areas shaped by agriculture. The local sights and trails therefore give you different starting points when choosing suitable accommodation in Bredsten.
## Hiking along the Vandel Railway route
Bindeballestien runs between Vejle and Bindeballe along the route of the former Vandel Railway. The entire route from Vejle to Bindeballe is 20 km long. The first 13.6 km, from Vestbanevej in Vejle to Ravning Station, are wheelchair accessible. At Vingsted, you will find shelters and tent pitches along Bindeballestien, with picnic shelters as well as barbecue and fire pits. Bredsten also has good bus connections and a cycle path to Vejle. This allows you to choose between a longer section of the route and a focus on Bredsten and Vingsted when planning your trip, without treating the route as a single uniform experience.
## Bredsten Church and Vingsted Iron Age
Bredsten Church was built in the 12th century. In 1738–39, Gerhard de Lichtenberg had a new outer wall, a new tower and spire, as well as a new porch built at the church. The tower has a bulbous spire; the pulpit and altarpiece are designed in the Rococo style. The church therefore offers several clearly distinguishable historical details that you can look out for during a visit.
Vingsted Iron Age comprises houses and other structures from various Iron Age villages in Jutland. The site lies between grassland, cultivated fields, a lake and forest, and offers walks as well as self-guided experiences. If you would like to include archaeological subjects in your trip in addition to physical activity, this place can be explored independently of a guided tour.
## Vingsted Lake on the edge of the Vejle Ã…dal
Vingsted Lake lies between Bredsten and Ødsted on the edge of the Vejle Ådal. The lake covers 6 hectares and is one of the 25 lakes and bogs in Denmark known as sacrificial weapon bogs. The finds from Vingsted Lake apparently date back to a large sacrifice around 250 AD. The fishing regulations are also clear: Fishing is permitted all year round, except in April, when the lake is protected to safeguard the pike spawning season.
The local area also includes the Skotsgaard farm shop in peaceful, rural surroundings near Bredsten. It offers a selected range of delicacies, wines and specialities from local producers as well as smaller European suppliers.
If you would like to consider additional destinations for your trip planning, you will also find Vesterlund Vesterlund, Randbøl Randbøl, Gadbjerg Gadbjerg, Børkop Børkop, Brejning Brejning, Vejle County Vejle County, Skærup Skærup and Jelling Jelling.
