Gadbjerg between a railway town and Refstrup Skov

Gadbjerg is situated in a scenic location between Tøsby Mose and the Omme River. At the same time, the central main street displays a well-preserved railway town environment with intact rows of houses. The river and moorland landscape forms the surrounding natural setting, while the rows of houses along the main street provide the town’s architectural accent.

Railway town character and church

The part of the town with a railway town character is concentrated around the intersection of the railway line and the road. Those interested in historic townscapes will find an ensemble here whose rows of houses have remained intact to this day.

Another feature of the town’s history is Gadbjerg Church. It was built around 1200 and has a Romanesque chancel and a Romanesque nave. Late Gothic additions include the west tower and the southern porch. There is also a Romanesque baptismal font beside the entrance door.

Refstrup Skov: forest, protected areas and paths

Refstrup Skov, covering 27 hectares, lies northwest of Gadbjerg. The forest is a highly varied and lush deciduous forest. Two small ash marshes protected under Section 3 are among its special natural features. The forest is also home to a cup-marked stone that is protected at its present location. Landscape, nature conservation and a cultural-historical monument thus come together here in a single forest area.

Short routes, dogs and other forest destinations

For a shorter hike, two routes of 1.3 and 1.4 km respectively are available in Refstrup Skov from the car park. The different lengths help you assess the two options for your own planning. At 1.3 and 1.4 km, the two routes are of a similar length. Both start at the car park, so the desired route length is clear before you set off. The forest also contains a dog forest east of Allevej in the direction of Gadbjerg. There, you can walk dogs off the leash while keeping them under control. A forest playground complements the destinations described in Refstrup Skov.

In the southeastern part of the forest stands a BÃ¥lhytten with integrated shelters for 20 to 25 people. The BÃ¥lhytten cannot be reserved. This clear information is particularly useful for practical planning if you are considering the forest as a destination for a stay with several people.
