Jordrup Parish: Nature, Cycling Routes and Local History

Jordrup Parish is well suited to planning a trip that combines nature, physical activity and local history. Skærsø and Truds Å give the landscapes distinct characters, while several paths and regional cycling routes provide concrete opportunities for walks and bike rides. Jordrup Church adds a clearly dated architectural history to these themes.

Skærsø and its species-rich landscape

Together with the adjacent Nørremose and correspondingly extensive natural areas in the neighbouring municipalities of Vejle and Vejen, Skærsø forms a large, continuous and very species-rich natural area. This combination of water, Nørremose and natural areas shapes the landscape beyond Jordrup Parish and extends into the neighbouring municipalities of Vejle and Vejen.

Skærsø is the only bathing lake in Kolding Municipality, the easternmost heath lake in Jutland and a so-called Lobelia lake. At the lake, the designated small beach allows swimming in summer. Those who want to combine water and nature will therefore find a clear seasonal focus here.

Walking at Skærsø and Truds Å

A marked route of around 2.5 km runs around Skærsø across the heath and through a jungle-like deciduous forest. For day planning, the route can be viewed as a path through two clearly different landscape areas: the open heath is followed by the dense-looking deciduous forest.

At Truds Ã…, the shortest and easiest route is the 1.5 km circular trail on the western grounds within the enclosure. In the river valley, you can walk across flowering nutrient-poor grasslands and along steep slopes. In the hilly landscape around Truds Ã…, you can also observe wild horses and beautiful wildflowers.

The length and terrain vary: The shorter circular trail lies within the enclosure, while the longer route passes across heath and through deciduous forest.

Regional cycling routes through Jordrup

Middelalderruten R35 is a regional cycling route that runs through Jordrup and, starting from Hærvejen, follows small paved country roads and forest tracks. One possible starting point for Middelalderruten is Jordrup Church, Borgergade 11, 6064 Egtved.

Another regional cycling route is Troldhede-Bahn – Regional Route 62. It runs from Ferup onwards north via small roads to Jordrup and Knudsbøl, as well as along a gravel road through Egtved Ådal and Tågelund Plantage. The cycling routes described therefore range from small roads and forest tracks to a gravel road through valley and plantation landscapes.

Jordrup Church as local history

Jordrup Church was built in 1884 and replaced a small medieval church that had stood in exactly the same location. The building history directly connects the present church with the earlier medieval church and gives the visit a specific historical dimension alongside nature and physical activity.

Other places in the same travel area include Sønder Stenderup, Frørup, Frydenborg, Viuf, Lunderskov, Sjølund, Hejlsminde and Bjert.
