Staffanstorp: Uppåkra, Churches and Nature Reserve

The Uppåkra archaeological site in Staffanstorp covers 40 hectares. During the Iron Age, more than a thousand years ago, Uppåkra was a centre of power where politics, religion and trade came together.

History

Gullåkra mosse was a sacred wetland in prehistoric times and served as a place of sacrifice in the area. A bronze lur found at Gullåkra mosse in the 1840s is considered one of the oldest metal instruments in the Nordic countries.

The Önsvala burial ground was used for almost 500 years during the Iron Age. It yielded extensive finds of pottery and metal and mainly comprises graves from the 5th, 7th and 11th centuries.

Several churches also preserve early architectural history. Tottarp Church dates from the 12th century and is open in summer and in connection with activities at the church. The nave of Nevishög Church also dates from the 12th century; the church in Nevishög probably has Romanesque origins. Särslöv Church dates from the 13th century. A 12th-century baptismal font is one of the attractions at Mölleberga Church.

Nevishög's smithy is a noteworthy, intact and fully operational village forge from the early 19th century. At an annual Smedjesdag held in autumn, it was put into operation once a year; the public was welcome to visit.

Nature

Vallby mosse is the municipality of Staffanstorp's first nature reserve. It was created in a former glacial dead-ice depression that later became overgrown with peat and subsequently filled with water. Vallby mosse is also an important resting and breeding site for birds, including ducks.

The Beträdor offer the public a 13-kilometre walking route between the fields. Most of the Beträdor are located between Tottarp and Djurslöv. Along the edges of the fields, people are free to walk, jog or ride horses.

Culture

Staffanstorp Art Gallery is located in the central Medborgarhuset and presents inspiring art as well as various events. It offers the public and schools guided tours of exhibitions, workshops and a creative studio.

Bråhögsbadet is the municipal bathing area in the centre of Staffanstorp. In winter, the facility has indoor pools; in summer, it has an outdoor pool. Bråhögsbadet also offers a wide range of activity options for the whole family.

Activities

The Staffanstorp–Eslöv section of Cykelleden Skåne begins in Staffanstorp. It combines cycling through urban areas and agricultural landscapes with numerous castles and manor houses.

Several regional buses are listed for travel from neighbouring cities: from Lund, route 166 runs to the Rådhuset and Storgatan stops; from Malmö, regional buses 174 and 172 run to the Storgatan stop.
