Klein Bennebek: Hotels and Accommodations

Klein Bennebek lies on the edge of the Eider-Treene lowlands and the Schleswig geest. Small streams cross the municipal area and carry surface water to the Sorge; at the same time, oak trees shape the local landscape.

Nature

In Klein Bennebek, the “Ditches of the Northern Alte Sorge” protected area covers 421 hectares. In the nearby surroundings, above Fünfmühlen, the Alte Sorge supports floating-leaved vegetation with water lilies and water soldiers. The Reppelmoor is also located in the vicinity, a former raised bog complex that is now described as a transitional bog with different stages of bog degradation.

In the nearby area, the protected area is an important resting and feeding ground for the tundra swan and the white stork. The Eurasian otter has become established again along the Alte Sorge after having been absent there since the late 1980s. The “Ditches of the Northern Alte Sorge” is also a distribution hotspot for the green hawker in the Eider-Treene-Sorge region.

The protected area includes a widely branched network of partly paved paths. The signposted Eider-Treene-Sorge cycle route runs along its northern boundary.

Cycle Routes and Water

A signposted regional cycle route leads from Bergenhusen via Fünfmühlen and Reppel to Alt Bennebek and Klein Bennebek. In the vicinity of Klein Bennebek, kayakers and canoeists can use the Alte Sorge between the watermill and Fünfmühlen.

In the surrounding area, fishing on the Alte Sorge is associated with the Klein Bennebek Angling Club; the club has a hut or jetty on the eastern bank.

Klein Bennebek includes the named localities of Potsdam, Berlin, and Bellevue. The yeomanry course uses different distances and levels of difficulty. A local course comprises 45 plastic animal targets, ranging from the eagle owl to the moose.
