Culture and Visitor Information
The visitor information provided by the Hürup administrative office is organised into viewpoints, leisure facilities, churches and monasteries, nature, cycling and hiking trails, bodies of water, and bathing areas.
Nature and Bodies of Water
The area around Lake Winderatter See and the Kielstau includes shore areas, reed beds, sedge meadows, lowland moorland, hedgerows, small bodies of water, forests, meadows, pastureland, and arable land. More than 70 small bodies of water provide habitats for amphibians and waterfowl.
Lake Treßsee is fed by the Bondenau and is considered the source of the Treene. The section from Lake Treßsee to Tüdal along the Treene is part of the Upper Treene Landscape nature conservation project. The Düne am Treßsee nature reserve lies north of Lake Treßsee.
Lake Winderatter See and the surrounding Kielstau landscape are being preserved and developed for nature conservation.
Swimming and Leisure
The Holmarksee outdoor swimming facility has separate areas for swimmers and non-swimmers. The facility includes a small beach, a jetty, and two diving towers. It also offers changing rooms, sanitary facilities, beach volleyball, sunbathing lawns, a sand play area, and a kiosk.
Trails and Views
A 150-metre-high telecommunications tower stands on Höckberg. A forest north of Höckberg offers trails for walking and recreation. In clear weather, Höckberg offers extensive views across the surrounding landscape. Höckberg is considered a local mountain and rises 82 metres above sea level.
Cycling and Pilgrimage Routes
The Uggelhardetour follows a section of the historic Ox Road. The 29-kilometre tour runs from Jarplund towards Hürup.
The German Pilgrimage Route leads from Flensburg via Oeversee, Schleswig, and Kropp to Rendsburg. It can be walked in both directions and also travelled by bicycle.
