Near Ausacker lies the Winderatter See–Kielstau landscape. It combines reed beds, sedge meadows, wet moorland, damp forests, old oak and beech hedges, small ponds, pastureland, and arable land. The area is designated as a landscape conservation area and a Natura 2000 site.

A circular hiking trail of around five kilometers runs through the area around Lake Winderatter See. A nature trail with 22 information panels focuses on nature, species conservation, culture, and history; there are also five designated picnic areas.
Höckberg is also located near Ausacker. The surrounding area also includes Ruethstein, Solitüde, Habernis Beach, Sieverstedt, St. Petri Church, and Farensodde.
History and Regional Surroundings
The local landscape history of Ausacker includes a watermill on the Kielstau at the eastern edge of the village. It operated from 1487 to 1845. Stones still mark the former shoreline, which came into existence when the lake was used to supply the mill with power.
