Ascheffel: Hotels and Accommodation

Ascheffel is located in the landscape of the Hüttener Berge Nature Park. The Aschberg reaches 98 metres and offers wide views over the strongly hilly surroundings; at the same time, around 130 kilometres of hedgerows shape the local landscape.

Landscape

Within the larger context of the Hüttener Berge Nature Park, there are 20 hiking routes and 6 cycling routes. The hiking trails are 3 to 17 kilometres long, while the cycling routes are 14 to 40 kilometres long. An official web app also lists sights, places to stop for refreshments and car parks.

The 36.5-kilometre Hüttener Berge section of the Nature Park Hiking Trail includes the Aschberg. The 180-kilometre Nature Park Hiking Trail crosses the landscape of the Hüttener Berge from Maasholm towards the North–Baltic Sea Canal. The attraction at the Aschberg also includes a 20-metre-high observation tower.

Nature

The Aschberg Green Classroom was established on the Aschberg in 2021. It is freely accessible and serves as a starting point for excursions to nearby hedgerows. In the dice puzzle, leaves, fruits, blossoms and shrub names are matched with one another to introduce the shrub species in the hedgerow. In the tree puzzle, participants can compare bark, heartwood and weight and examine the annual rings.

Culture

Around 1550, there was a glassworks in Ascheffel. In 1633, Duke Frederick III commissioned a paper mill in Ascheffel. A Bismarck statue made of sheet copper was inaugurated on the Aschberg in September 1930; it had previously been moved there from Knivsberg near Apenrade. It was created by the Schleswig-Holstein sculptor Adolf Brütt.

Huk's Restaurant in Ascheffel states that 80 percent of its offerings consist of regional and seasonal products. The restaurant offers vegetarian and vegan dishes; for fish and meat, it names regional producers.
