Ahl between coast, plantation and shallow water

Ahl is a coastal destination for you if you want shallow water, changing landscapes and paths through forest and plantation to shape your day. Ahl Hage is a sandbar with shallow water. At Ahl Hage North Beach, forests and low oak vegetation lie to the west, while open salt meadows stretch to the east. To the east of Ahl Hage there are also hills formed by the yellow meadow ant. Plantation with views across the coast

Ahl Plantation was originally planted in 1890 and 1910. It comprises coniferous and deciduous trees as well as a Sphagnum bog. The plantation lies on a flat beach meadow formed by centuries of sand deposits. Ahl Plantation offers views of the bay, the sea and Mols Bjerge. This means that both sheltered natural features and wide coastal views take centre stage within the same landscape area.

Routes between coast, beach and forest

For cyclists, the Ahl Route is approximately 18 km long and runs along minor roads and paved cycle paths. The route includes a detour into Ahl Plantation. On foot, the GÃ¥sehage stage leads around Ahl Hage. The walking path through Ahl Plantation follows the coast, passes Ahl Beach and then returns through the forest; along the way, it offers views of a bird sanctuary and Ebeltoft. A yellow-dot route runs through Ahl Hage along the shallow water. This makes it possible to combine cycling and walks with different coastal and landscape impressions.

Observing water and nature

At Ahl Beach, the seabed consists of sand, clay, stones and seagrass, making it suitable for snorkelling and small discoveries underwater. The northwestern boundary of the Ebeltoft Vig wildlife reserve runs from the tip of Ahl Hage to the mouth of the Vibækken. The Ebeltoft Vig wildlife reserve protects Ebeltoft Vig as a resting area for waterbirds. In the area around Ahl, the protected part of Ebeltoft Vig serves year-round as a resting place for flocks of mute swans, mallards and gulls.

History and orientation on site

On the northern coast of Ahl Hage there is a fortification from the English Wars of 1801 to 1814. At Ahl Hage, two shelters stand in the oak grove as part of a sea-kayaking route. The Ebeltoft section of the Djurslandstien trail also has shelters at Ahl Hage. Leaflets with suggestions for walks and experiences are available at the northern car park at Ahl Hage.
