Ferries depart daily from Grenaa Havn to the island of Anholt and to Halmstad in Sweden. The Grenaa Å runs through Grenaa; it is a watercourse approximately 7 kilometres long that flows into the Kattegat at Grenaa Havn. On the Grenåen, canoeists can paddle from the town centre at Gasværksvej to Enslevgården.

Grenaa Plantage combines woodland with large heathland areas characterised by heather and juniper growth. It has a natural playground as well as routes suitable for hiking and cycling. There is also a trail described as Denmark’s longest singletrack MTB trail. The Kløverstier in Grenaa lead through the town’s streets and lanes, along the Grenaaen river, through the plantation and into the open landscape at the tip of Djursland. Grenaa Naturskole organises public tours throughout the year.

History, art and maritime experiences

Museum Østjylland Grenaa presents a permanent exhibition on the history of Norddjursland, spanning 10,000 years and complemented by digital installations. The museum is partially open again: visitors can access the special exhibition “Væk med Skidtet” as well as the reopened permanent exhibition areas “Jorden” and “Kalken”.

The Lydvandring i August Kroghs fodspor follows August Krogh’s upbringing in Grenaa in the late 19th century across seven stops. In Grenaa Plantage, the Hjemstavn-Podwalk allows you to scan a QR code and hear voices from the region while walking through the landscape. Nederstræde, a side street of Lillegade in Grenaa, is a cosy street lined with idyllic, well-preserved half-timbered houses. Baunhøj Mølle Grenaa hosts changing art exhibitions, while Kulturhuset Pavillonen offers theatre, musicals, comedy, visual art and live music.

Kattegatcentret also has its own special focus: it is home to 200 different animal species from around the world. Shark training and feeding take place there every day in the tropical shark tank.
