Papendorf: Hotels and Accommodation

Papendorf (Vorpommern) is a municipality in Germany in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The foundations of the later Papendorf church date from the beginning of the 14th century and are made of glacial erratics.

History

Papendorf was first mentioned in 1302. In the same year, Margrave Waldemar transferred Papendorf to the city of Pasewalk to settle a debt. In 1360, the Pomeranian dukes Barnim, Bogislaw and Watislaw again awarded the place to Pasewalk. In 2002, Papendorf celebrated its 700th anniversary.

Church and Townscape

The original church building is a rectangular fieldstone hall church with a later-added lower section of the west tower. The church bell was cast in 1889 by the Szczecin craftsman Ernst Voss. The churchyard is enclosed by a fieldstone wall, and a World War I memorial stands on the village road. The church is considered an important testament to the region's architectural and cultural history.

The church has been inaccessible for several years. Due to safety concerns, traffic restrictions apply in its vicinity.

Place and Landscape

Papendorf is primarily a residential area without major economic structures. Agriculture used to be the most important economic factor. Agricultural land in and around Papendorf continues to be cultivated on a small scale.

Cycling and Nature in the Surrounding Area

A cycle path along the B 104 leads towards Papendorf. In the wider area of the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, canoe trips and beaver watching are promoted. The landscapes around the Szczecin Lagoon, the Peene, the Uecker and the Randow can be explored there by bicycle. The pine and beech forests as well as the Ueckermünde Heath are considered areas for hiking, cycling and horse riding.

The Brohmer Berge–Randow Valley circular tour begins in Pasewalk and combines historical sights with views of the Brohmer and Helpter Hills. The route has rail connections in Pasewalk, Strasburg and Torgelow. It continues through villages, meadows and forests to the Slavic settlement of Ukranenland in Torgelow.

Other places in the same administrative area are Schönwalde, Polzow, Zerrenthin, Viereck, Koblentz, Groß Luckow, Jatznick and Nieden.
