Kruckow is an old manor village, first documented in 1249. The village lies on the B110 and combines a traditional manor history with distinctive traces in the municipality.

History

Schmarsow Palace was built around 1698/99 as a three-wing complex and redesigned in Baroque forms in 1796. The palace is a two-storey rendered building with a hipped roof.

Architectural Heritage

Schmarsow Church is believed to date from around 1400. It is a towerless brick hall church with a five-sided choir. The single-manual organ was built in 1886 and restored in 2020. The church interior also contains a polychrome sandstone epitaph commissioned in 1625. A key to Schmarsow Church is available in the village.

Cooking courses using fresh regional ingredients take place in the historic kitchen of Schmarsow Palace.

Traces

The megalithic tomb near Marienfelde lies directly next to the B110. There is a parking area where visitors can stop. Two other, less well-preserved megalithic tombs are located near Kruckow.

A stone murder cross stands at the edge of the village in the direction of Schmarsow. The ruins of Osten Castle are also located within the municipality of Kruckow. The historic rampart of a castle is located in Tutow-Dorf, which belongs to Kruckow; Tutow-Dorf is also associated with a place referred to as “the old town”.

Landscape

Kruckow is situated on a plateau that slopes down toward the Tollense. The Tollense forms the southern boundary of the municipality, while the Kuckucksgraben runs through a glacial meltwater valley in the north.

Several impressive old trees have been preserved in Kruckow’s former manor park. Paths lead from Schmarsow Palace through forests and meadows and along the Tollense.

Geographical Location

Schmarsow Palace can be reached from the Jarmen exit 28 of the A20 via the B110. The route branches off near Kruckow, followed by approximately 3 km to Schmarsow. The nearest railway stations to Schmarsow Palace are in Demmin and Sternfeld.

The west wing of Schmarsow Palace contains holiday apartments overlooking the palace pond.
