Mellenthin: Hotels and Accommodations

Mellenthin is located inland on the island, about five kilometers north of the Szczecin Lagoon. The town offers nature, cycling routes, historic buildings, and ecclesiastical art.

Nature

The Mellenthin Heath stretches along the northern edge of Mellenthin and is part of the Usedom Nature Park. The Mellenthin Botanical Garden covers 60,000 square meters and showcases native flora.

Culture and History

The Renaissance manor house in Mellenthin was built between 1575 and 1580. On the way to the castle is a former estate farm: the restored half-timbered building dates from the 16th century and is used as a restaurant, hotel, and sales outlet for regional products.

Mellenthin Village Church was founded in 1319 as a filial church of St. Paul’s Church in Usedom. The church interior contains preserved ceiling paintings with biblical scenes and the martyrdom of Saint Erasmus. There are also panel paintings from the late 17th century depicting the Crucifixion and the Last Judgment.

Cycling and Routes

Regional cycling route 5 begins and ends at Schmollensee railway station and passes through Mellenthin. The official Im Achterland cycling route also reaches Mellenthin by bike and passes the moated castle built in 1575.

The UBB Achterland Tour bus route also runs through Mellenthin.

Culinary Delights

Mellenthin Moated Castle is open to the public. Meals are served in its dining rooms; there are also walks through a park with mature trees. Landgasthaus Klein serves Pomeranian fish specialties, meat and sausage dishes, and homemade cakes based on family recipes.
