Menzendorf: Hotels and Accommodation

Menzendorf is a village centered around a village green with a through road. In the southern half, the form of a farming village has been preserved: the buildings there are arranged radially in a circular village pattern.

Village Structure

Characteristic settlement forms can also be found in the surrounding area. Rottensdorf is the remnant of a small circular village on the shore of Lake Menzendorf. Lübseerhagen developed as a forest-hufendorf on the site of a cleared forest and is considered the only village of its kind. Its almost square field pattern is divided into eight long strips running across the road.

History

The Lübsee church was built as a Romanesque structure in the second quarter of the 13th century, between 1236 and 1263, with Early Gothic brick elements on granite foundations. It was first mentioned in 1263 and restored in 1874. Four layers of wall and vault paintings have been preserved inside, with extensive remains exposed. During restoration work, wall paintings from the 13th to the 17th century were also discovered and exposed.

Culture

The former carved altar of Lübsee church is now housed in the Staatliches Museum Schwerin. The Lübsee cemetery contains a grave belonging to the Siemens family; Werner (von) Siemens's parents are buried on the northwest side of the church. The Siemens family lived in Menzendorf as tenants of an estate.

Nature

Natural paths run through the Lübsee churchyard beneath lime trees, past stone crosses and faded inscriptions. Menzendorf and its districts are regarded as an area for recreation and walks.
