History

Minija was first mentioned in records in 1540. Fishing was the village’s most important historical livelihood. In the past, residents cut reeds in winter in the frozen wetlands of Kniaupė Bay. Minija is known as the “Little Venice of Lithuania.”

Water

Minija has a well-equipped yacht marina. The Minija River route is crossed by boat or pedal boat. The village is developing into a center for land and water tourism, catering to anglers and sailors. Activities include boating and water skiing.

The village of Mingė is among the attractions visited on boat trips in the Nemunas Delta.
