Blankaholm is a destination for anyone who wants to combine nature by the water, walks and maritime impressions. Two areas are particularly important for finding your way around locally: the Blankaviken nature reserve and Blankaholm guest harbour. Blankaviken: Walking trails, rocks and seasonal blooms

The Blankaviken nature reserve was established as early as 1973 to ensure public access to a valuable bathing and walking area. The landscape includes flower-rich, tree-covered pastures and lush deciduous forests. From the elevated rocks, there are views across Gåsfjärden. Blankaviken therefore offers various natural features within one contiguous protected area: open meadows, deciduous forest and elevated rocky areas with viewpoints.

A special sight is the rare orchid Adam and Eve. It blooms in May and June, giving Blankaholm’s natural attractions a distinct seasonal character. Those who want to plan their trip around specific nature experiences will therefore find a particular seasonal feature here, without reducing the landscape to a single reason for visiting.

For active days, the section of the Blankaholmsslingan circular route that passes over the Majkaseberget viewpoint hill can be used as a distinct point of orientation. This section has a total elevation gain of 54 metres.

Swimming and harbour life

For the 2026 bathing season, the bathing water in Blankaholm was classified as being of excellent quality. This clearly time-specific information complements the description of the Blankaviken bathing area and is particularly relevant when travel planning is focused on experiences in and around the water.

Blankaholm guest harbour offers fresh water, electrical connections, waste sorting, a facility for emptying latrines, showers and toilets. It is also possible to hire a raft with a sauna, kayaks, motorboats and bicycles there. This opens up a maritime yet active perspective when choosing the focus of your holiday: at the harbour, you can find facilities for spending time on the water as well as opportunities for activities on land.

Blankaholm’s history as a sawmill town

The history of the area is also part of understanding Blankaholm. The former sawmill around which Blankaholm developed was founded around 1890 and gradually became one of the largest sawmills in southern Sweden. Several decades of sawmill history lie between its foundation around 1890 and its reconstruction after the fire of 1946. Parts of the former sawmill were damaged by a major fire in 1946 and rebuilt using the most modern technology available at the time. These two historical milestones describe a development that makes Blankaholm identifiable not only as a nature and harbour destination, but also as a former industrial site.
