Vallensbæk between marshland, beach and cultural heritage
Vallensbæk Strand is a sandy beach with good bathing conditions and part of the seven-kilometre-long coastal area of Strandparken on Køge Bugt. Vallensbæk Mose covers 50 hectares and extends across parts of the municipalities of Albertslund, Høje-Taastrup, Ishøj and Vallensbæk.
Nature
Vallensbæk Mose has numerous trails for walking and outdoor activities in every season. Strandparken is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including nearly 200 different bird species. The Vallensbæk Kløverstier comprise four marked trails of different lengths and with different themes; they start at Vallensbæk Idrætscenter. Different trail lengths and themes can be compared when planning your own route.
The Black Clover Trail, also called Mose- og Nordmarksstien, is a 10.5-kilometre hiking trail in the Vallensbæk Mose and Nordmarken area. It provides instructions for warm-up, interval and strength exercises, as well as information about the local botany, wildlife, waterways and structures. Vestegnsruten is a 42.195-kilometre route that can be used on foot, by bicycle or running, and passes, among other places, Vallensbæk Havn.
Vallensbæk has seven freely available shelters for overnight stays outdoors. Vallensbæk Fugletårn og formidlingsbase is open to everyone; both observation huts have accessible entrances. From Vallensbæk Fugletårn og formidlingsbase, you can observe, among other species, grey herons, common buzzards, kestrels, hooded crows, jackdaws, swans and smaller birds such as reed buntings and great reed warblers in the marshland.
By the water
At Vallensbæk Mose, it is possible to fish, rent rowing boats and purchase day fishing permits. Vallensbæk Sø has a water-ski facility operated by Vallensbæk Vandskiklub. Vallensbæk Strand has received the Blue Flag every year since 2013. The Valhal bathing facilities include an outdoor area with bathing pools, a cold-water shower and toilet, as well as indoor areas with changing rooms and a sauna.
Culture
Vallensbæk Landsby is a well-preserved village with old farmhouses, a village pond and a medieval church. Vallensbæk Kirke was built between 1150 and 1200 in the Romanesque style; the Late Gothic tower was added in the 16th century. Vallensbæk Kirke contains preserved murals created around 1450 by the Isefjord Master.
Gænger is an interactive light artwork on the bridge over Ringvejen; the lighting responds to people walking or cycling across the bridge. The artwork "Flyttet Istid" includes a concrete glacial erratic at Vallensbæk Havnevej.
Events
Store Cykeldag takes place every year on the second Sunday in June as a free family cycling event in Vallensbæk. Sankt Hans is celebrated every year in Strandparken with activities, food, drinks, music and a bonfire. Gadekærskoncerten takes place every year on the third Thursday in August at the village pond in Vallensbæk Landsby. Mosens Dag takes place every autumn with numerous activities in the green surroundings of Vallensbæk Mose.
Leisure
Vallensbæk Fodboldgolf is free and open to everyone; the course has 18 holes with obstacles such as tunnels, barriers and bushes. It is located in a natural setting with a lake in the middle of the course and wild-flowering plants. The nature playground at Golfsvinget has three playhouses, zip lines and a slide and is intended for children.
The playground at Vallensbæk Havn includes the sunken cutter "Noa", a lighthouse with an observation platform and a two-metre-high slide. Vallensbæk Rideakademi offers group riding lessons for children, young people and adults.
