Ølsted between nature park and Halsninoen

Ølsted combines a 52.7 km hiking route with nature observation, scenic views and unusual leisure destinations. Halsninoen is a hiking route through the whole of Halsnæs that runs through Ølsted and offers views of Lake Arresø. When choosing accommodation, it is therefore particularly relevant whether you want to focus your stay on trails and landscapes, culture or skate facilities. The long route and the trails around the gravel pit appeal to different forms of hiking: Halsninoen leads through the whole of Halsnæs, while the network of trails runs around and through the gravel pit.

Nature and active days around Ølsted Gravel Pit

The former, disused Ølsted Gravel Pit has been transformed into a nature park. A network of trails leads around and through Ølsted Gravel Pit. From the top of the gravel pit, 47 metres above sea level, there are views of Roskilde Fjord and Lake Arresø. The bird tower offers the opportunity to observe nature and life in the landscape from an elevated perspective. This makes it possible to experience the gravel pit from different perspectives. The use of the shelter sites is also clearly regulated: At Ølsted Gravel Pit, the principle is “first come, first served”. Anyone wishing to use the sites must observe this principle on location. Cyclists should note an important restriction concerning Halsninoen. Long sections of the route are suitable for cycling, but this suitability does not apply to the entire route. If you are planning a cycling trip, you should therefore base your plans on the specific section rather than automatically assuming that the complete route is suitable. The length of the route and its varying suitability make section-by-section planning advisable.

Transport links and trails

The local railway line from Hillerød stops in Ølsted. Bus connections link Ølsted with Frederiksværk, Hillerød and Gribskov. There are also good pedestrian connections from Ølsted to Kregme and Frederiksværk. Frederiksværk can therefore be reached by bus and on foot, while Hillerød is accessible both by train and by bus.

Church and skate culture

Ølsted Church was originally built from large fieldstones and dates from around 1150. Ølsted therefore combines a historical connection with its nature and activity offerings. The church focuses on historic construction, while Olliestedet focuses on movement on obstacles and ramps. Olliestedet in Ølsted includes a 720 m² skate hall with street obstacles and a mini ramp. The mini bowl can be used by skaters of all ability levels because it has a high end and a low end.

Every late summer, the Olliestedet Open competition takes place in the hall. It is aimed at amateur and professional skaters. In late summer, the competition adds an event for both groups to the activities taking place in the hall.
