Nature and Water Landscapes
Hakkemosen offers year-round opportunities for outdoor recreation, including a shelter, a fire pit, outdoor dining and hammocks. It is also home to the giant troll sculpture Teddy Venlig by artist Thomas Dambo, made from recycled materials. Visitors can gather edible plants, fish in Hakkemosesøen and prepare the food at the fire pit by the shelter.
Selsmosen is a water park in the middle of Taastrup. Its facilities include a raft, a water maze, a climbing bridge, stepping stones and a beach volleyball court; the lake is also home to a diverse range of birds and wildlife.
In the wider regional area around Høje-Taastrup, St. Vejleådal is an 11.3-kilometre-long green corridor between Høje-Taastrup Municipality and Albertslund Municipality. This landscape includes lakes, streams, meadows, scrubland, forest, wetlands, bogs, coastal meadows and individual artificial hills. Also in the wider regional area, Vestskoven covers 1,400 hectares and four municipalities: Albertslund, Høje-Taastrup, Glostrup and Ballerup.
Hedeland Nature Park covers more than 1,000 hectares of hills, lakes and green spaces and was created from a former gravel-mining landscape.
Marked Trails and Active Days
The Høje-Taastrup Marathon Ring is a marked, 42-kilometre route for hiking, running and cycling. It also includes shorter sections of 30, 21, 10 and 7 kilometres. The different route lengths make it easier to compare the options for planning your day.
The red Kløversti leads to St. Vejleådal. The Kløverstier in Høje-Taastrup consist of four marked trails of different lengths, starting at Taastrup Bibliotek. The black Kløversti tells the story of Taastrup – from the construction of Høje Taastrup Church in the early Middle Ages, through the brick industry of the 19th century, to modern urban development around Selsmosen.
In the wider regional area around Høje-Taastrup, the 5-kilometre-long Kringelstien passes through forest, along bogs and past hills; the trail is wheelchair accessible. In the St. Vejleådal nature area, walking, running, cycling, fishing, water skiing, horse riding and canoeing are possible year-round.
The Kroppedal Museum garden includes a 140-metre-long natural obstacle course. In the centre of Hedeland Nature Park are a ski slope and a viewpoint; the path to the summit rises 50 metres. Hedelands Veteranbane offers a 5-kilometre train ride through the former gravel-mining area, with eight stops where visitors can get off.
History, Museums and Stages
Høje Taastrup Church is a large village church built at the beginning of the 12th century, with a 30-metre-high tower. The Vikingebro road and bridge structure is 700 metres long and was completed in 2019.
Kroppedal Museum is the local museum for Albertslund and Høje-Taastrup municipalities. It offers exhibitions, city tours, lectures and other events on archaeology, astronomy and recent history for children, young people and adults. During the winter half-year, from October through March inclusive, the museum hosts evenings with popular-science lectures and opportunities for observation.
The archive at Blaakildegaard is located at Skolevej 54 in Taastrup and extends across the farm’s four wings. It contains storage rooms, exhibition spaces, a reading room and administrative offices; the archive also includes many local objects. Taastrup Teater- og Musikhus is a professional theatre and venue for concerts, theatre performances and various shows.
Opera Hedeland stages operas in an amphitheatre in the Hedeland landscape at Tranemosevej 8 in Hedehusene. The Hedeland Amphitheatre is an open-air stage transformed from a gravel pit, with more than 4,000 seats.
Getting There and Regional Connections
Høje Taastrup Station is located on the Vestbanen railway line between Copenhagen Central Station and Roskilde. It is the terminus of S-train lines B and Bx and is served by InterCity and regional trains. For Opera Hedeland events, a free shuttle bus runs from the west side of Høje Taastrup Station, by the taxis, to the venue.
