Espergærde – Beach, Harbour and Nature

If you are weighing up beach, harbour and nature for your stay on the Danish Baltic coast, Espergærde offers several clearly identifiable points of interest. Espergærde Strand Syd is a sandy beach south of Espergærde Havn; Espergærde Strand Nord is a small stretch of beach immediately north of the harbour. The harbour was originally established in 1880 as a small fishing village and is now a cosy marina. The townscape therefore extends from a distinct sandy beach to a harbour with a history of its own. The two beach sections frame the harbour on its southern and northern sides, giving the coast several points of interest located close together.

Espergærde Havn is next to a 500-metre-long sandy beach with clean bathing water. There is also a fire pit 10 metres from the shore at Espergærde Beach. The two beach sections differ in size and location: Espergærde Strand Syd lies south of the harbour and is a sandy beach, while Strand Nord lies immediately north of Espergærde Havn. Those wishing to include the maritime character of the town will find a second, independent focal point in the marina and its history.

Nature, walking trails and cycle route

In the protected Rørtang Kystkile landscape lies Landskaber i Balance, an open landscape corridor between Espergærde and Snekkersten. Egebæksvang, a coastal woodland near Espergærde and Snekkersten, is also located in the vicinity. The 1.5 km-long health trail in Egebæksvang runs there. The length of the health trail therefore remains a specific reference point for a shorter woodland section. Store Egebæks Mose and Lille Egebæks Mose lie in the southern part of the woodland; they are key areas for nature conservation. For a longer active outing, the Espergærde–Dronningmølle cycle route is relevant; it runs through Kongernes Nordsjælland National Park. In the woodland, a 1.5 km-long route is therefore contrasted with a cycle connection through Kongernes Nordsjælland National Park.

Culture and local experiences

At Flynderupgård, the history of Denmark as an agricultural country is presented. The site offers children and adults many outdoor experiences in the surrounding nature. Flynderupgård, located near Helsingør, also houses the easternmost information point of Kongernes Nordsjælland National Park. At Flynderupgård, children and adults can combine outdoor experiences with learning about agricultural history. In Espergærde’s cultural surroundings stands Egebæksvang Church: it was designed by the architect Ludvig Knudsen, while its ornamentation and multicoloured stained-glass windows were shaped by Joakim Skovgaard and Thorvald Bindesbøll.
