Tallbacken

Svågan, forest and trails around Tallbacken

Svågan is considered a popular fishing waterway. Recreational anglers particularly appreciate its stocks of trout and grayling. The Tallbacken area is part of the forest conservation area Norra Hälsinglands gammelskogar. In addition, the Tallbacken LIS area is connected with the national interests in Svågan, outdoor recreation and nature conservation.

Flottarleden with a viewpoint and circular trail

Flottarleden offers a practical way to experience the landscape on foot. Below Tallbacken, the scenic hiking route has a viewpoint overlooking Svågan. The route is designed as a circular trail: the start and finish are in the same place. Anyone walking this route therefore returns to the starting point rather than arriving at a different endpoint. The viewpoint connects the course of the trail with views of the fishing waterway and makes the river a visible part of the hike. The hike thus remains tied to the same starting and return point, while the canoe tour begins in Ängebo and follows its own stretch of river.

Canoe section between rock walls and sandbanks

The canoe tour begins in Ängebo and follows winding sections of the Svåga älv lined with deciduous trees. Along this section, steep rock walls alternate with sandbanks. The sandbanks offer opportunities to come ashore, swim and have picnics; the canoe tour can therefore be interrupted there before continuing along the next section of river.

The Svåga älv is six Swedish miles long and has an elevation drop of 350–400 metres. The canoe tour uses its own section of this river and connects the start in Ängebo with the winding banks lined with deciduous trees. The six Swedish miles refer to the entire course of the river; the canoe tour follows its own section from Ängebo. The winding, tree-lined banks stand alongside the open sandbanks and steep rock walls of the section. Anyone wishing to plan an additional horseback ride can find Icelandic horse rides at Tallbackens Islandshästar & Midgård. The riding tours vary in length and difficulty.
