Bjuråker combines a rich cultural history with distinctive natural and landscape experiences. Those looking for more than just a place to stay and who also want a clear thematic focus for their trip will find connections here between church art, folk music, industrial history, species-rich nature and bathing spots.

Churches, Folk Culture and Historic Sites

Bjuråker Church is an important point of reference in the area's history. Its predecessor was a medieval church that had been built by the 14th century at the latest. The present stone church was inaugurated in October 1750. The chancel contains a wooden sculpture of Saint George on horseback with a praying princess, created by Haaken Gulleson at the beginning of the 16th century. Those interested in sacred art and older craft traditions can give these aspects particular consideration when planning their trip.

At Bjuråker Forngård, several buildings provide insight into regional architectural and everyday history. The Forest Museum is housed in a two-storey log building. Jens-Ors is a multi-room farmhouse from the 1750s that was moved here from the village of Tjärna. Kyrkstugan is the only preserved church cottage in Hälsingland. Together, these sites offer different approaches to history: from the forest and the work associated with it, through residential life, to the religiously oriented use of a church cottage.

A notable event for those interested in regional culture is Bjuråkersstämman. The local heritage festival and folk music gathering takes place annually on the third Sunday in July. Those looking for traditional music and a festive cultural experience can include this date when planning a summer trip.

Industrial History around Bjuråker

Moviken blast furnace was built in Moviken in 1795 to supply the bar iron forge in Strömbacka. The three furnaces form a well-preserved core of the site that can still be visited today. Much of the original machinery has also been preserved. The restored blast furnace illustrates how pig iron was produced. Moviken blast furnace is therefore particularly suitable for travellers who want to understand historical production processes not only through buildings but also through their technical function.

The Strömbacka forge is also part of the region's industrial history. It is considered the last Walloon forge in the world still in operation. The combination of forging tradition, furnaces and machinery makes the area around Bjuråker an interesting destination for cultural and historical excursions.

Nature, Water and Outdoor Activities

Bjuråker Church is situated on a hill and offers wide views over cultivated farmland towards northern Dellen. Another natural highlight is Snipåsen. There is a landslide escarpment, species-rich vegetation on a south-facing slope and a valuable, species-rich snail fauna. These features particularly appeal to travellers who perceive the landscape not merely as a backdrop, but with an interest in geology, plants and wildlife.

Svågadalen has hiking trails and a pilgrimage route. In winter, groomed ski tracks and snowmobile trails are added. There is also a prepared bathing area at Lake Havra with bathing jetties, changing rooms, swings and a barbecue area. Fönebo in Bjuråker is a child-friendly bathing spot where visitors can swim, go stand-up paddleboarding or ride pedal boats. Those travelling with different interests can choose between quiet nature observation, hiking trails, winter activities and activities on the water.

Avholmsberget Café & Restaurang offers views over the Dellen Lakes. In the wider travel area, Dellenbanan offers a 54-kilometre rail experience every summer, which can be explored on a rail bike from Delsbo station.
