Gnarp – Hiking, Nature and Cultural History

Gnarp is particularly well explored through its trails, natural areas, and traces of cultural history. Gnarpsrundan passes through large parts of the locality and connects different landscapes. In addition, Kulturstigen in Sörfjärden and Gnarpskaten Nature Reserve add further highlights: the history of Sörfjärden, a coastal trail with sea views, and burial mounds from different eras. While Gnarpsrundan opens up the locality through several landscape areas, Kulturstigen focuses on the history of Sörfjärden; Gnarpskaten combines coastal scenery with older traces of cultural history.

Gnarpsrundan through the locality

Gnarpsrundan is a five-kilometre hiking trail through large parts of the locality of Gnarp. Its starting point is at Gnarps skola, where parking is also available. From there, the route passes through residential areas, deciduous forest, coniferous forest, and farmland. The route therefore includes inhabited areas, two types of forest, and agricultural landscapes. Gnarpsrundan thus makes not just one natural area but different parts of the locality the subject of the hike. Those who want to get to know Gnarp along a longer trail will find a route here where the townscape and landscape are present together.

Kulturstigen in Sörfjärden

Kulturstigen in Sörfjärden, Gnarp, is approximately three kilometres long. At 21 locations, pictures and texts provide information about the rich history of Sörfjärden. The trail thus combines hiking with cultural-historical information that is accessible at several points along the route. Maps of Kulturstigen are available at three points: at the turn-off, by the remains of the old blast-furnace ruins, and at the site in Sörfjärden where the public road ends. The orientation points therefore include the turn-off, a historic site, and the endpoint of the public road.

Seasonal differences on Kulturstigen

Kulturstigen is mainly suitable for hiking in summer. Some sections can also be visited in winter. When choosing a season, a distinction must therefore be made between summer use of the trail and winter visits to individual sections.

Sea views and older traces in Gnarpskaten

In Gnarpskaten Nature Reserve, you can walk along the coastal trail and look out over the sea. The area is also of cultural-historical interest because of its burial mounds from the Stone Age and the Iron Age. The burial mounds thus belong to two different historical eras and are located in an area that also offers a coastal trail and sea views. Those visiting Gnarpskaten can combine a walk by the water with views of cultural-historical traces from the Stone Age and the Iron Age.

A special cultural connection

The Gnarps Hembygds- och fornminnesförening held the Ersmässfirandet, a celebration unique to Gnarp, on 18 May.
