When choosing a stay in Bergsjö, different priorities can help: outdoor activities and local history. Walking trails, a fishing area, church art and historic buildings provide concrete points of reference for planning your day. You can decide whether exercise, waterways or cultural connections should shape your stay more.

Trails, forest and fishing waters

The Bergsjö runt walking trail is three kilometres long and runs through the village. Old coniferous forest of spruce and pine grows on the eastern and southern slopes of Bålleberget. Higher up on the steep slopes, there are views of Bergsjö and Storsjön. The climb includes several steep sections and requires some effort.

This gives you different criteria to consider when planning your day: the length and route of Bergsjö runt are clearly defined; at Bålleberget, the steepness, effort and views shape the experience. You can compare a measured circuit through the village with a climb that is explicitly demanding.

The Bergsjö Fiskevårdsområde has fishing waters that include lakes and running waters. This adds a distinct water-based theme alongside trails and wooded slopes. When putting together your day’s activities around your interests, you can consider fishing as a separate focus alongside walks and a climb. Lakes and running waters offer two different types of fishing water to explore.

Art and local history

The chancel wall of Bergsjö kyrka is decorated with paintings by the artist Albert Blombergsson, dating from 1845 to 1856. This places the paintings in the mid-19th century and gives the church a specific art-historical connection. If you are interested in historic design, the chancel wall is a clearly identifiable detail.

Östigården at Bergsjö Hembygdsgård is a family farm from the 17th century that took on its present appearance in the early 19th century. Its origins and later appearance mark two historical stages. This distinction makes Östigården an interesting place to consider the farm’s development over time.

Öststugan at Bergsjö Hembygdsgård is the birthplace of Jon-Erik Öst. While Östigården connects to history through its period of origin and appearance, Öststugan adds a biographical connection to the place.

Finding your way around Bergsjö

Bergsjöparken is centrally located in Bergsjö at Stationsvägen 10B, above the bus station and sports ground. Bergsjö bio is in the centre at Södra vägen 4. The bus station and sports ground help you locate the park; the cinema is identified by its address and central location. The two places thus offer different points of reference for finding your way around the village.

The library in Bergsjö is the main library of Nordanstig Municipality. Its role therefore extends beyond the local library, adding a municipal reference point to the park and cinema.

For 2025, the reception at the municipal building at Södra vägen 14 was listed as an InfoPoint with Wi-Fi. Check its current operating status before planning a visit.
