The agricultural inland landscape of Østermarie is characterised by large fields, small natural areas and exposed bedrock. The town is located in northeastern Bornholm, 10 km south of Gudhjem, 8 km west of Svaneke and 21 km east of Rønne.

Culture

Østermarie Church was built in 1891 next to the ruins of an older church dating from around 1225. The newer church is used for concerts by KulturBornholm and the Bornholm Music Festival.

There are four rune stones in the Østermarie cemetery. The Østermarie Alphabet Stone was found at Jessegård, about 3½ km south of the town. It is considered nearby cultural heritage rather than a monument within the town.
