Nexø: Hotels and Accommodation

Nexø is a port town on the east coast of Bornholm. At the same time, Nexø is a practical starting point for exploring eastern Bornholm; local information on sights, activities and events is available.

History

The town developed from a medieval fishing settlement and was granted market town rights in 1346. Its historic economy included herring fishing and the export of agricultural products.

Nexø’s architectural character includes sandstone walls as boundaries, as well as extensive functionalist reconstruction with brick after 1945, which followed the bombing of the town during the war. The Nexø Museum presents Nexø’s past as a fishing town.

Nature

Nexø is predominantly flat and lies below 15 metres; to the west, the terrain rises towards the nearby Paradisbakkerne area. Bornholm’s signposted cycle network includes a Rønne–Nexø route and a recommended circular route from Nexø there and back.

The wider area around Nexø includes Nexø Lystskov south of the town and the former Frederiks Stenbrud quarry to the northeast, with a water-filled excavation. In the nearer or wider surroundings of Nexø, the aforementioned natural landscape, the aforementioned quarry and the Nexø Sydstrand bird reserve are associated with the town.

Balka is considered a nearby beach area and an extension of Nexø. The beach area has white sand and shallow water and is regarded as a family-friendly place to visit.
