Grevinge between Forest, Fjord and History

Grevinge combines a deciduous forest in hilly terrain with the landscape around the reclaimed Sidinge Fjord. The focus is on observing nature, paths without designated hiking or running routes, and an unusually dense series of traces of cultural history. There are also opportunities for horseback riding, fishing and gaining insights into regional art and family history.

Forest, Fjord and Birdlife

Grevinge Skov is home to a rich variety of birdlife, including woodcocks, pheasants, owls, songbirds and birds of prey. Numerous roads and paths invite you to take a walk; you can also choose your own routes. However, there are no marked hiking or running routes there. Walks therefore focus on choosing your own route and observing the diverse birdlife.

Stone Age Monuments

Ten prehistoric monuments are associated with Grevinge Skov; all of them date from the Stone Age. One of them is “Hamlets Grav”, a Neolithic long barrow. It is 39 metres long, 9 metres wide and enclosed and marked by a total of 53 kerbstones. The name Hamlet’s Grave is probably not accurate. Plejerupdyssen is located in a dead-ice landscape near the fjord. Frenderupgård-dyssen is a round dolmen with a hexagonal chamber and an entrance. Near Herrestrup in Grevinge, it stands at the corner of Holtevej and Odstrupvej on the grounds of Frenderupgård.

Church, Reclamation and Remembrance

Grevinge Church also bears traces of history and art: the altarpiece contains a fresco by Niels Larsen-Stevns from 1924 depicting the Resurrection and Ascension. The pulpit dates from 1654 and bears an inscription about its patron, university professor Ole Worm, who died in 1653. The reclamation works of Lammefjord also include a memorial created by Holmer Trier from Vallekilde, depicting the various phases of the drainage project. Audebodæmningen was built from 1872 to 1874; the first phase of pumping out the water from the reclaimed area began in 1875.

Horseback Riding, Fishing and Regional Culture

In the northwestern part of Grevinge Skov, traces of the former “Nødflyveplads Vig” facility can still be seen. In the wider region, Malergården offers insights into the art and family history of the Swane family, as well as the history of their guests, travels and dreams, through its buildings, rooms, garden and courtyard. Prejlerup Ridning offers horseback rides in natural surroundings directly by Grevinge Skov. People of all ages, social backgrounds and riding levels are welcome there. At Audebodæmningen, you can catch sea trout, especially in spring and autumn. Grevinge Skov also has a bookable shelter with a fire pit and barbecue for around four people; it can be reserved up to three months in advance for a maximum of two consecutive nights. OLG is an antiques and flea market featuring vintage cars, motorcycles, collectible toys, ceramics, furniture and hobby items.
