Ruś: Hotels and Accommodation

Ruś is located in the upper Łyna Valley between wooded hills. The buildings begin on a steep slope. Locally, the area is called “Warmian Switzerland” or “East Prussian Switzerland.”

Landscape

The village lies directly on the Łyna. Its fast-flowing waters influenced the settlement’s activities for a long time.

History

The documented history of Ruś dates back to the mid-14th century. In 1374, the Warmia Cathedral Chapter settled five Prussian beekeepers in a bend of the river.

Traditional occupations included beekeeping, fishing, and milling. Historically, the village also had grain mills, sawmills, oil mills, and iron and copper works.

Nature and Borderland

The wider protected area has a long history of cultural and political changes in the borderland. The landscape contains traces of migration, conflicts, and settlement.

The reserve and its surrounding area are considered a historic borderland shaped by different cultures, tribes, religions, and states. Traces of this development are visible in the landscape and in archaeological remains.

The Warmian Forest Reserve is considered a fragment of the Napiwodzko-Ramucka Forest and part of the Natura 2000 area.

The area surrounding Ruś is home to Olsztyn - Zamek XIVw. and Janusz Kusociński Park.
