Rävö between sea bays and natural areas

Shallow sea bays, grazed coastal meadows, woodland and green areas, as well as paths by the water, define the character of Rävö. This interplay is particularly evident at Älgöleran, Orrevikskilen and Dillehuvudet. Rävö therefore combines an open coastal landscape with natural areas in the interior of the island and with several spots for birdwatching, swimming and walks by the water.

Sea Bays and Open Coastal Landscape

Älgöleran is a very shallow sea bay near Styrsholmen and Rundö, close to Råssö. The bay is part of the EU’s Natura 2000 ecological network. Its location near Styrsholmen, Rundö and Råssö, together with its shallow waters, shapes a distinctive section of the Rävö landscape.

Orrevikskilen is also a shallow sea bay. Large areas of grazed coastal meadows extend to the water’s edge and are flooded at high tide. The bay therefore illustrates a coastal environment where open meadow areas and seawater directly alternate. The water level visibly changes which parts of the coastal meadows remain dry and which areas are reached by the high tide.

Rävö Recreation Area with Paths and Communal Areas

The communal property of the Rävö recreation area includes roads and pavements, a beach and a jetty. The area is divided into three sections. There are orientation maps and information at the entrances to each section. The paths and division into three sections are therefore just as much a part of the local layout as the areas by the water.

The communal property also includes large woodland and green areas, as well as lush gardens covering a total of more than 40 hectares. These areas support a rich variety of plant and animal life. In addition to the shallow bays and open coastal meadows, Rävö thus also has extensive green areas with woodland, gardens and other habitats. Those who wish to experience the landscape from more than just the water will find a range of different natural settings within the recreation area.

Birdwatching and Paths by the Water

There are two separately described birdwatching spots on Rävö. At Nöddökilen, there is an elevated platform accessible via Rävövägen. The birdwatching tower at Orrevikskilen, on the other hand, is located near the road towards Rossö. The two sites therefore belong to different landscape areas: the platform is in Nöddökilen, while the tower can be found by the road towards Rossö at Orrevikskilen.

The communal jetty of the Rävö recreation area is located at Dillehuvudet. A walking and cycling path also leads to the older jetty at Dillehuvudet. At the same location, Rävö has a bathing area with a bathing jetty. Dillehuvudet thus brings together the communal jetty, the older jetty, the path for pedestrians and cyclists, and the bathing area along one section of the coast.
