Kovikshamn – Cliffs, Harbor and Sundhammar

Kovikshamn combines a rugged coastal landscape, maritime local history and specific destinations for days by the water. The natural areas around Kovikshamn are characterized to a large extent by bare cliffs. Those who choose a place based on its landscape rather than just a single attraction will therefore find a clearly recognizable character here: rocky nature stands alongside a fishing village and access to a small boat harbor.

Bare cliffs and protected recreational areas

The bare cliffs are among the defining landscape features around Kovikshamn. In addition, Area 3 in Kovikshamn includes areas of national interest for outdoor recreation. Compared with the sandy beach at Sundhammars badplats, the landscape here is characterized by rock rather than sand. For active travelers and anyone who considers the landscape and outdoor activities when choosing where to stay, this gives it a distinctly different character from a destination centered on a single stretch of beach. Kovikshamn is also a fishing village. The small boat harbor adds a specific connection to the water to this maritime local setting. A kayaking trip on Ryskärsfjorden began with a meeting in Kovikshamn. The harbor thus represents the maritime connection to the place, while Ryskärsfjorden is associated with a specific kayaking experience. For days by the water, two different facets therefore stand side by side: spending time in the fishing village and taking a trip on the fjord.

Cultural and local history

Area 3 in Kovikshamn contains cultural heritage sites and ancient monuments. These historical traces broaden the perspective beyond the coastal landscape. Together with its designation as a fishing village, they make this a destination where natural surroundings and local history stand side by side. Another historical trace is Sundhammars barnkoloni, a former children's colony located near the beach at Kovikshamn. Its former use is part of the local history and is not equivalent to a visitor attraction today. The area thus includes both cultural heritage sites and ancient monuments as well as the specific reference to a former children's colony.

Sundhammars badplats and getting your bearings locally
