Discover Grundsund: Harbour, Archipelago and Coastal Paths

Grundsund combines the character of a well-preserved fishing village with coastal paths, archipelago views and maritime history. Sheds and small houses cluster along the cliffs, by the quay and beside the harbour canal. Those wishing to choose between nature experiences, culture and activities on the water for their trip will find several clearly distinct points of interest here.

Fishing Village, History and Film Location

The older parts of Grundsund on both sides of the canal belong to the settlement areas and surroundings protected by municipal development plans. The religious buildings also give the village historical depth: A major renovation in 1893 gave Grundsund Church its present floor plan as a cruciform church, while the chapel in Grundsund was built as early as 1799.

The local culture also includes the cinema on Skaftö in Folkets Hus in Grundsund, which occasionally shows films there. A large part of the television series Saltön was filmed on Skaftö, particularly in Grundsund. The old cholera cemetery is also located along the Kuststigen section between Fiskebäckskil and Grundsund, making it a particularly noteworthy place along this trail.

Coastal Paths and Nature Trails

The promenades between Skäddhålan and the bathing area in Vigerna are suitable for walks along the coast. They follow the rocks and coastline and offer views of the rocky archipelago. A cave and information boards about the landscape complement this coastal section.

The Skuddevigeleden is more demanding: This difficult nature trail crosses the mountains of Ösö and connects Skutevik with the continuing path towards Hårsäckan. Along the way, the trail offers views of the sea and the surrounding archipelago landscape. Those looking for an easier hike can follow an easy path from Grundsund towards Islandsberg.

Guided activities also focus on different themes. Skaftöguiden offers cultural-historical and themed walks in Grundsund and leads nature walks throughout the year. This makes it possible to explore the landscape either independently or with thematic guidance.

Bathing Areas and Orientation on the Water

Munkevik bathing beach lies between Grundsund and Stockevik. The bathing area has a surface of larger stones, and there is also an equipped barbecue area. From Grundsund, Munkevik can be reached via the promenades and the Munkeviksleden, or via the combined cycle and pedestrian path from Grundsund to Stockevik.

From Grundsund and Stockevik, the start of the Munkeviksleden at the foot of Åseberget can also be reached on foot or by bicycle via the coastal path. The trailhead is near the cholera cemetery. At Hårsäckan, stairs with handrails lead along the area; good swimming skills are required for bathing, so the site is not suitable as a children's swimming area.

For days on the water, Balanspunkten – Kajak i Grundsund offers kayak rental, courses and guided tours around Skaftö. The kayaking courses take place in small groups, and safety exercises are a fundamental part of the training. Grundsund guest harbour offers alongside berths at Östra Kajen and berths with stern lines at Västra Kajen.

Grundsund as a Base for Exploring the Destination

In Grundsund, stairs, paths and jetties may not be closed off or privatised. This keeps paths to the landing places located close to the houses accessible. For comparison with other destinations, you can also consider Fiskebäckskil, Brastad, Torpet, Lysekil, Skalhamn and Brodalen.
