Fiskebäckskil is a seafaring town with well-preserved buildings dating from around 1900. There are many paths for walking between the captains’ villas and boathouses. The history of the town can be discovered particularly along Kaptensgatan and on the picturesque paths and stairways. The town’s historical character is also evident at the fishing harbour: it was established in the 16th century on the basis of the lucrative herring trade.

One of the distinctive buildings is the old farmhouse Fornstugan. It is the oldest building in Fiskebäckskil and is considered typical of the local homes of the 17th century. The house of the artist Carl Wilhelmson is also associated with the town’s history and was designed as a National Romantic villa. These different buildings make Fiskebäckskil’s development visible in several places, without limiting the town walk to a single building.

Church, art and events

Fiskebäckskil Church was built in 1772, replacing an earlier wooden church from the 16th century. Inside, it has ceiling and wall paintings created in 1783 by church painter Joachim Gotthard Reimers. This makes it possible to combine the historic town area with a longer hike without describing the bathing spot as part of the town centre.

The passenger ferry Carl Wilhelmson operates daily and year-round between Fiskebäckskil and Lysekil, providing a connection between the two places.
