Between the Faxälven, viewpoints and nature experiences

Edsele is located in western Ångermanland on the Faxälven. The village combines landscape experiences with regional culture and various opportunities for active days. Viewpoints offering far-reaching views across the landscape are as much a part of the area as the Gideåbergsmyrarna, which lie on a gentle slope descending towards the Faxälven valley. Northwest of Edsele is also the largest quartz and feldspar quarry in Västernorrland.

If you are planning a trip to Edsele, you can focus on hiking, exercise, water activities or cultural and historical impressions, depending on your interests. The different destinations do not require a single overall assessment: Byberget is suited to a short, partly steep ascent, while the running and training trails offer a different form of activity. When looking for a suitable hotel, you can first determine how you would like to spend your days.

Bybergsleden: short ascent with a view

The Bybergsleden trail leads to a summit on Byberget at 318 metres above sea level. The ascent is approximately 1.5 kilometres long and partly steep. In some places, ropes are available for support. Take these details into account when planning and allow sufficient time for the route, as well as bringing suitable equipment. Parking is available near the start of the Bybergsleden in Edsele.

Those looking for a manageable route with a clear destination will find a specific hiking option here. The elevation and the reference to individual steep sections help distinguish the route from a simple walk. For further exercise, Edsele has a 2.5-kilometre illuminated running and training trail as well as a 5-kilometre trail. Behind the running and training trail there is a wind shelter and a barbecue area.

Water activities at Rammsjön

The Edsele Vattenskidklubb is based at Rammsjön beach. Water skiing can be tried there several days a week. The beach has a sandy shore, a bathing jetty, a diving tower in the water and a barbecue area. This makes it possible to combine time by the water with a sporting activity or a break on the beach, without limiting the area's offerings to just one type of trip.

Church and local heritage museum

Edsele's cultural history also offers specific points of interest. Edsele kyrka was built in 1799 by the Jämtland church builder Pål Persson from Stugun. Its furnishings include a pulpit from the late 17th century, made by Jon Snickare in Härnösand. The church also contains a fragmentary figure of Christ from the 12th century, which probably belonged to a processional cross or a triumphal crucifix.

The Edsele local heritage museum is also relevant for visitors interested in cultural history. It consists of a Parstuga from 1836 that was relocated from Fjällbohög. Edsele kyrka is scheduled to be open for services and concerts; in summer, it is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday during weeks 26 to 32. You can take these opening hours into account when planning your trip if you would like the church to be part of your stay.

For further travel ideas, you can also include Näsåker, Ramsele, Helgum, Sollefteå, Junsele and Långsele in your selection.
