Nipas and hiking trails

Sollefteå’s landscape is shaped by nipas, river valleys and forests. Nipleden lets you experience this landscape on a specific hiking route: it starts at Sollefteå Camping on Risön in the town centre and is 27 kilometres long. You can hike the entire route or choose suitable sections. Cliffs up to 50 metres high line the trail, and large stretches follow the nipas. In places, the trail is steep and narrow. When deciding whether to hike the full route or individual sections, bear in mind both its length and the terrain described.

The Hågestön recreation area offers a different kind of trail: a walking path runs around the island, with a ski trail added in winter. Conditions on the seasonal trail may vary. Exploring the Ångermanälven by kayak is another experience. Sollefteåguiderna rents out kayaks and offers both day trips and overnight paddling tours. As availability may change, it is advisable to check with the provider before planning a specific trip.

Activities at Hallstaberget

Hallstaberget offers various ways to spend time outdoors. The ski stadium at the summit in Sollefteå has a total of 60 kilometres of well-maintained cross-country ski trails through varied terrain. There are also marked running and walking trails through hilly terrain with different surfaces. Hallsta’s roller-ski track is considered one of Sweden’s most challenging and varied. Above the hotel, the Familjeliften lift provides access to mountain biking. Hallsta Ski refers to all the activities offered at Hallstaberget in summer and winter; the seasonal offering may vary.

Hullstaklippen is another option for a mountain hike. This short, easily accessible day trip starts at Hotell Hallstaberget. Unlike the 27-kilometre Nipleden, Hullstaklippen is classified as a short day trip; Nipleden also lets you choose suitable sections. This means you can plan your hike in different ways: a short trip on the mountain or a longer route, with the option of hiking individual sections.

Art and history in the town centre

In the town centre, Kulturstråket brings history and art together. The walk starts at the midpoint of the pedestrian street, at Atti Gränd, and follows Minnenas allé. It is intended for both locals and visitors. The route offers a cultural perspective on Sollefteå that differs from the activities at Hallstaberget.

Designed by Folke Zetterwall, Tingshuset is characterised by the National Romantic style of the period around the turn of the previous century, and also features distinctive Norwegian and Scottish elements. Its period style and additional elements are distinct aspects of its design. Ådalsbyn is located in the park between the former Tingshuset and the Nipvallen sports ground in Sollefteå.

Starting points and getting around

The route between Hallstaberget and the town centre is also worth considering when planning your day. The easiest way to get from Hallstaberget to the centre is by car; walking is also possible, although the return journey up the mountain is 2 kilometres uphill. If you want to combine activities on the mountain with a stay in the centre, you can take this difference into account when planning. Nipleden starts at Sollefteå Camping on Risön in the town centre, Kulturstråket at the midpoint of the pedestrian street at Atti Gränd, and Hullstaklippen at Hotell Hallstaberget. These starting points can help you plan your activities around your interests.
