Two specific starting points for planning your trip to Långsele are the building history of Långsele Church and the Faxälven, which flows through the town. If you are interested in historic architecture, you can compare the present-day church with its predecessor from the 16th century; if you would like to include water and fishing in your stay, the river is a good place to start.

Church, Railway Station and Local History

The present-day Långsele Church was built between 1815 and 1828, replacing an earlier stone church from the 16th century. The two building phases are clearly distinct in time: the older church was followed by the present-day building in the 19th century. One distinctive architectural detail is the location of the church tower. It stands above the choir and altar on the eastern side. Along with its construction date, the arrangement of the building’s features is therefore one of the church’s notable aspects.

Railway history is another local theme. Långsele locomotive shed was built in 1903. The station area comprises a platform, a station building and a goods shed. The locomotive shed provides a specific historical reference point, while the three features mentioned also give an impression of how the station area is laid out. The library on Köpmangatan is also located in central Långsele.

Another point of cultural-historical interest is in Örbäck: Örbäck Hembygdsgård is located there on Road 87, just 2 km from Långsele. The local heritage farms in Långsele/Graninge each tell their own story and can be visited in summer. If you would like to include these farms in your plans, bear in mind that visits are seasonal and check the specific visitor arrangements before your trip.

The Faxälven, Swimming and Fishing

The Faxälven flows through Långsele and offers many opportunities for swimming and fishing. Långsele bathing beach is suitable for strollers; parking and a toilet are nearby. If you are travelling with a stroller, you can take this into account when choosing where to go. As facilities may change, check their current status before your visit.

If you are choosing Långsele for specific activities, you will find Faxängens IP as well as the Faxälven. It has a floodlit ice rink with boards and grass pitches. This gives you two different options to compare: swimming and fishing on the Faxälven, or sports facilities at Faxängens IP, with its ice rink and grass pitches.
