Ingaröstrand: Fjord, Beaches and Archipelago Trails

Ingaröstrand is located in Stockholm’s inner archipelago on Återlögafjärden, about 4 kilometres east of Brunn centrum.

Shoreline, Swimming Areas and Orientation

The communal facility Ingaröstrand ga:8 comprises several jetties. This includes a bathing jetty on part of Barnviksnäs 1:1. Ingaröstrand also has a communal bathing area with several sandy beaches. Local amenities include a communal sauna by the waterfront, a community boat club and a pétanque court next to the harbour shed. These facilities give the place its distinctive character, without allowing any characteristics of individual accommodations to be inferred from them.

The shoreline landscape is also characterised by a specific regulation: at Återlögafjärden, shoreline protection applies to the area’s parking spaces within 100 metres of the shore. For orientation on arrival, it is documented that Fågelviksvägen is regularly served by the SL core network. At Fladenbadet/Dyviken, there is a small car park in the immediate vicinity of the bathing area.

Archipelago Trails and Natural Areas on Ingarö

At the far end of Ingarö, in Värmdö Municipality, lies Björnö. Björnö Nature Reserve offers sandy beaches, cliff bathing, hiking trails and views over Nämdöfjärden. Björnöspåret is a 7.1-kilometre hiking trail through a varied archipelago landscape in the nature reserve. In addition, there is an approximately 200-metre-long educational trail with 15 information boards about the Baltic Sea environment and its species. At 7.1 kilometres, Björnöspåret is considerably longer than the approximately 200-metre-long educational trail.

The Långviksträsk Nature Reserve on Ingarö presents a different landscape. It is a largely untouched marshland and forest area surrounding the small lake Långviksträsk. In the southern part, a marked nature trail begins at the parking area; the path is marked with yellow markings.

Church, Cultural Trail and Local History

The Pilhamn Cultural Trail is a 1.7-kilometre cultural trail from Ingarö Kyrka to Dyviken. It runs along the Kolström waterway and partly passes through the old parish centre of Ingarö, which has been designated an area of national interest for heritage conservation. Ingarö Kyrka was inaugurated in 1792. It is protected under Chapter 4 of the Swedish Cultural Heritage Act and lies in an area of national interest for heritage conservation.

The Pilhamn Cultural Site also includes the Sockenstuga. The building, rebuilt in 1818, served as a school and for parish meetings; it was used as a school until 1873. On 4 November 2022, the Sockenstuga was moved from the vicarage to the Pilhamn Cultural Site. Ingarö Hembygdsförening also runs a museum. For many years, Ingaröstrand has hosted a traditional Midsummer celebration on the Midsummer Meadow, organised by independent festival committees.
