Ingarö between Archipelago Nature and the Cultural Trail

At the easternmost end of Ingarö lies the Björnö nature reserve in Värmdö Municipality. Björnö features typical archipelago nature, with open agricultural land in hollows between forests and rocks. Torpesand combines a sandy beach with rocky bathing spots and views over Nämdöfjärden.

Nature

The Långviksträsk nature reserve on Ingarö is a largely untouched wetland and forest area surrounding the small lake Långviksträsk. The forest in the nature reserve has been able to develop without logging for more than 100 years. The Långviksträsk wetland is included in Sweden’s national wetland protection plan and in the Natura 2000 network.

The Brunns nature reserve covers just under 85 hectares. It contains valuable, mostly untouched old pine forests and wetlands. Marked trails and a lit fitness track are also part of the area.

Trails and Water

The 7.1-kilometre Björnöspåret runs along minor roads and forest trails in a nature reserve in southeastern Ingarö. Along the route there is a dry toilet, drinking water, a rest shelter and a campsite. Several marked hiking trails pass through the Björnö nature reserve to Småängsuddarna and to a lookout tower offering expansive views over the archipelago.

The lit Ingarö motionsspår is 2.7 kilometres long and starts at Brunns skola. The Brunns nature reserve can be reached by bus from Slussen or Gustavsberg; get off in Brunn or at one of the first stops along Mörtviksvägen. Then follow the lit trail from the school.

The accessible snorkelling trail at Torpesand in the Björnö nature reserve is an underwater nature trail with a route marked by buoys and information boards. Underwater, there are sandy bottoms with aquatic plants as well as rocky bottoms with bladderwrack and blue mussels.

Culture

The Ingarö Cultural Trail runs along the Kolström shipping channel from Ingarö kyrka to Dyviken. The trail passes Sockencentrum, the bell tower, Pilhamn, Klockaregården, Kulturträdgården, Trollskogen and Varvsholmens gravfält. One of the places described on the Cultural Trail’s information boards is Kulturplats Pilhamn.

Along the Ingarö Cultural Trail, three overview boards and seven individual boards provide information about the places along the route. The Cultural Trail is approximately 4 kilometres long and runs through easy terrain. There is parking by the church, and there is also a bus stop at Ingarö kyrka.

Ingarö kyrka is protected under Chapter 4 of Sweden’s Cultural Heritage Act. Construction of the church began in 1790, and it was inaugurated in 1792. Carl Cederström, Sweden’s first aviator, is buried in the cemetery at Ingarö kyrka.

Golf

Ingarö Golfklubb has two 18-hole courses with different characteristics. Ängsbanan is situated in a valley with a pronounced archipelago character; small islands and ponds are integrated into the landscape. Skogsbanan lies in a hilly woodland area with a pronounced archipelago character and a rich variety of birdlife.
