Vojens: Hiking Trails, Industrial History and Leisure

If you would like to combine activity and history, orientation in Vojens begins with paths and traces from different eras. Four hiking trails are signposted in the tunnel valley between Haderslev and Vojens. The entire route from Haderslev to Vojens can be covered on foot and is approximately 14 km long. Industrial History and Prehistoric Traces

History becomes tangible at several specific points in Vojens. In 1901, manufacturer Hans Gram built a 100 m² machine workshop in Vojens. The “Brdr. Grams historiske og køletekniske museum” tells the story of the Gram refrigerator factory, which developed from a village smithy into a modern industrial company. The industrial history thus extends from the machine workshop built in 1901 to the development of the Gram factory from a village smithy into a modern industrial company.

Older traces are also part of the picture: The passage graves of Over Jerstal are a collection of megalithic tombs from the Neolithic period, dating to approximately 3300 BC. At the site of the Skrydstrup Bronze Age House in Vojens, the outline and post markings of the huge Bronze Age house excavated in 1993 can be seen along Over Jerstalvej between house numbers 37 and 39. Six information boards describe the history of the Skrydstrup Bronze Age House. The prehistoric traces therefore range from the passage graves dating to approximately 3300 BC to the Bronze Age house excavated in 1993.

Leisure and Getting There

For a varied day plan, Vojens Svømmehal complements the historical and natural attractions: It offers a leisure pool with several pools and a slide. The Vojens Speedway Center opened in September 1975. Vojens also has a go-kart track at the Motorsport Arena. The swimming pool, Speedway Center and go-kart track each offer a different leisure focus.

Getting around locally is also straightforward. Vojens railway station is located in the town centre; the station also has good bus connections. The E45 motorway is 5–10 minutes by car from Vojens. Train and bus connections therefore link to the station in the town centre; for travel by car, the E45 is the relevant reference point.
