Vallåkra between Borgen and Wallåkra Stoneware Factory

Vallåkra combines a nature reserve with a traditional ceramics factory and unusual traces from prehistoric times. Nature on the outskirts of Vallåkra

The Borgen nature reserve lies on the outskirts of Vallåkra. Paths lead through green landscapes, past scree slopes and along babbling streams. This makes Borgen a landscape that can be explored on foot over short or longer stretches, without requiring any particular sporting activity. In July and August, the rare Flockarun plant blooms in the meadows and in an old clay pit in the nature reserve. The flowering period is therefore a clear seasonal reference for anyone wishing to plan their visit around the area’s plant life.

Hillfort and dinosaur tracks

The remains of an Iron Age hillfort lie on the Borgen plateau. It served as a defensive structure for the people of the surrounding area. This historic site complements the experience of nature with a tangible trace of the human past. Fossilized footprints of the six-metre-long herbivorous dinosaur Plateosaurus were also found in Borgen’s southern clay pit. The sites differ geographically: the hillfort lies on the plateau, while the fossilized footprints were found in the southern clay pit. At the southern entrance to the nature reserve, a fossilized dinosaur footprint can be viewed next to the Wallåkra Stoneware Factory. Thus, the area around Borgen brings together landscape, prehistory and early settlement history.

Ceramics at the Wallåkra Stoneware Factory

At the Wallåkra Stoneware Factory, you can walk around the kiln, watch a film about Wallåkra and visit the workshop. The factory shop sells salt-glazed, brown-gloss stoneware. Guided tours of the Wallåkra Stoneware Factory can be booked year-round. They are led by the factory’s own guide, Åsa Orrmell.

By train and bus to nature and culture

Vallåkra has train connections to Helsingborg, Lund and Malmö. This means that the connection to these three cities is an important point of orientation when choosing accommodation or a starting point. Hiking trails in the Råån Valley can also be reached from Vallåkra by train and bus.

Further cultural points of interest

Krogen at Wallåkra serves dishes made from seasonal ingredients. Another historic destination, Kvistofta Church, was built in the 13th century in the Romanesque style from sandstone.
