Nature Trails and Open Landscapes

Maglehem combines a gently rolling natural landscape with an unusually diverse range of cultural traces. Those who prefer active days will find trails through a nature reserve, while art and church art provide a distinct focus of their own. The Maglehem Nature Reserve is characterized by open areas and grazing animals. This creates a landscape that clearly differs from densely built-up places and defines the character of the destination.

Circular Trail Through Several Nature Reserves

The 9 km Blåvingeleden circular trail passes through the Maglehem Nature Reserve as well as the neighboring nature reserves of Kumlan, Drakamöllan and Lillehem. This gives you a clearly described opportunity to explore several protected landscapes in one continuous loop. Those who do not prefer a fixed circular route can also explore the Maglehem Nature Reserve on foot via old field roads and paths. These trails provide a separate way of accessing the landscape alongside the signposted circular route.

One of the special natural areas is Davidskärr in the Maglehem Nature Reserve. The mire is extremely rich in limestone and is home to numerous rare animal and plant species. This means that the focus here is not only on the landscape as a backdrop, but also on a habitat with distinctive ecological characteristics. When choosing their activities, nature enthusiasts can therefore choose between a longer trail loop, quieter paths and an area with rare animal and plant life.

Church, Painting and Art in the Village

Maglehems kyrka was built around the middle of the 13th century in the Gothic Revival style. The wall and vault paintings inside also date from the middle of the 13th century. They were discovered in 1930 and uncovered and restored in 1948–1949. Another historical detail is the baptismal font from the early 13th century, carved from Gotland sandstone. The church thus combines architectural history, medieval painting and a distinctive stone furnishing.

More contemporary art is also part of the village landscape. Konsthållplatsen is an open-air exhibition at Maglehem's marketplace that has presented artists since 2016. The Konstrunda was launched in 1968 by eleven artists in the area around Maglehem. These two facts mark different chapters in the village's art history: one is an exhibition in public space that has existed since 2016, while the other is the establishment, in 1968, of an art event founded by artists.

Mill Tradition and Homemade Specialties

Blåherremölla has been known as a mill site since the early 17th century. Homemade cakes, waffles and open-faced sandwiches are served in an old farm and mill setting. For a stay with an interest in regional history, this place complements the natural and artistic experiences with an ensemble where the mill tradition and a specific culinary offering come together. Maglehem can thus be explored not only through its trails and nature reserves, but also through its historical and cultural points of interest.
