Ulsnis is situated directly on Gunnebyer Noor and the Schlei in a wooded landscape.
Nature and Shoreline
Ulsnis is part of a Natura 2000 area. At the end of Ulsnisstrand-Weg on the Schlei are salt marshes that are considered a rare salt-marsh habitat for characteristic flora and fauna.
Ulsnisstrand is a bathing area directly on the Schlei. The Hagab bathing area is described as suitable for families with small children because of its shallow water. Hagab Beach also has parking spaces and toilets. Another section several hundred metres north of Hagab is suitable for dog owners.
Culture and History
The Kius-Ulsnis-Steinfeld Village Museum presents local and social history through objects from households, farms and craft businesses. The exhibits include items from the 17th and 18th centuries as well as a camera purchased in 1898.
The St. Wilhadi Church also preserves historical evidence. Parts of the building probably belong to the oldest surviving church fabric in Angeln; its portal is dated to around 1150. The church also houses an Early Gothic corpus of Christ dating from around 1230/40. After more than 100 years in the Flensburg Museum, it returned to the church in 2012.
The Giant of Ulsnis is a sculpture in the form of a giant installed on site.
On the Water and Out and About
The Schlei Ulsnis-Steinfeld Boat Club offers berths for paddle boats, rowing boats and dinghies in Ulsnis-Stauertwedt. Ulsnisstrand also has a slipway and guest berths for larger boats. Vessels of the Schlei fleet dock at Ulsnisstrand.
Ulsnis and the surrounding region can be explored by bicycle or on foot.
