Neu Duvenstedt: Hotels and accommodations

Neu Duvenstedt lies on the edge of the Duvenstedt Hills in a largely agricultural and natural landscape shaped by ground moraines. Twelve farms of the colony were established in the Duvenstedt Hills on the edge of the Hüttener Hills.

Culture and history

The Tree Church is a replica of Rendsburg’s St. Mary’s Church at a scale of 1:4. Public church services are held there on special holidays, including Easter Monday and Harvest Thanksgiving Sunday. The Tree Church is also available for weddings and baptisms.

Neu Duvenstedt’s 15-farm colony was founded between 1761 and 1764 as part of the settlement of the Schleswig Geest. An earth hut discovered on what is now the Colonist Farm was restored to its former condition. The colonist house was later built with the exact proportions of the old colonist house.

Colonist Farm and nature

The Colonist Farm in Neu Duvenstedt is considered a year-round, 14-hectare open-air site with activity stations and walking trails in Hüttener Berge Nature Park. The Colonist Farm nature experience area conveys the life of the colonists who settled here and cultivated the landscape; it includes a cultural trail and animal enclosures.

A 3.2-kilometre Nordic walking route leads through the Ice Age-shaped Duvenstedt Hills on the grounds of the Colonist Farm. The route includes an information board and small trail markers. The Colonist Farm also offers walks through the surrounding landscape.

The Sculpture Trail can be explored independently or with a guided tour. The Colonist Farm’s trekking facilities are aimed at people travelling by bicycle or on foot.

Cycling route and access

Cycle Route 3 in Hüttener Berge Nature Park is an approximately 28-kilometre circular route with a detour to the Colonist Farm nature experience area in Neu Duvenstedt. The Colonist Farm can be reached by following the K1 towards Ahlefeld and then turning into Bornbarg.

The “Wildes SH” trekking site at the Colonist Farm offers a 500-square-metre area where visitors can spend a night under the starry sky.
