Groß Vollstedt: Hotels and accommodations

At Lake Vollstedt, there is an unsupervised bathing area with a shelter and barbecue area. It is freely accessible at any time; there is no kiosk or snack bar there. Directly next to it is the Groß Vollstedt bathing area playground with a slide, swing, seesaw, sandbox, and shelter.

Nature

Since 2007, Lake Vollstedt has been recognized as an FFH site. This area includes the lake, its shore, its siltation zones, and the surrounding lowland areas, which are predominantly used as grassland. Groß Vollstedt is considered to be situated in a hilly landscape and has an extensive network of hiking trails. Westensee Nature Park is considered a landscape with numerous lakes, gentle hills, meadows, and forests.

Culture

The “Good Shepherd” Chapel in Groß Vollstedt is considered a roof-only church dating from 1958/59. It was the first small church to receive funding under Schleswig-Holstein’s chapel construction program. For historical and scholarly reasons, it is of particular public interest for preservation.

The historic water tower stands at the northern end of Groß Vollstedt. It is considered a village landmark and a preserved example of a type of water reservoir building that is significant to the social, hygiene, and technological history of rural areas. Today, it provides shelter for bats; it is also associated with local efforts to protect owls.

Things to do

The approximately 35-kilometer-long nature park hiking trail includes Groß Vollstedt. The Westensee Tour is approximately 40 kilometers long; Groß Vollstedt is one of the places named along it. In the wider regional area, the Westensee Tour circles the approximately 700-hectare Westensee through wooded and open terrain with some inclines.
