Four Signposted Hiking Routes in Hornsyld

Hornsyld has four signposted hiking routes of varying lengths. This selection makes distance an easy criterion for planning the day: depending on the time available, you can choose a shorter or longer loop without the four routes being limited to the same landscape impression. One of the marked routes leads through the nature area near the town at the Urlev Ã…. There, the natural setting is the immediate focus.

The black Kløverstier route passes, among other places, Skerrildgård Manor. Another route follows the old Horsens–Juelsminde railway line. Here, the former railway track shapes the character of the route. Anyone focusing on the history of the paths will find a different point of reference along the old railway line than in the nature area at the Urlev Å. The different route themes complement the various route lengths by providing another way to orient your choice for the hiking day.

Along the hiking routes near Hornsyld, there are numerous table-and-bench sets. They are located along the route and offer an opportunity to include a break in the course of the hiking day. This is particularly relevant for planning when the chosen loop involves more than just a short walk.

Historic Traces in the Townscape

Historic traces can also be seen in individual buildings within the townscape. Elisedal has preserved its four-winged farm complex. The main building is of considerable age; it may be the oldest house in Hornsyld. Hornsyld Bryggeri was built in 1897, while Hornsyld Kro dates back to 1856. The preserved farm complex and the two different construction dates offer different approaches to the history of the town. In the historic townscape, individual buildings and ensembles stand side by side. Elisedal preserves a four-winged farm complex, while at Nebsager Church, the surrounding farms and school-related buildings form part of the preserved village setting. Thus, the focus shifts once to the form of a farm complex and once to the interplay of several buildings. Elisedal, Bryggeri and Kro represent different architectural points of reference in the town’s history. The construction dates of Hornsyld Bryggeri and Hornsyld Kro add two specific points in time to that history.

Nebsager Church is located on the eastern edge of Hornsyld. A preserved village setting with farms and school-related buildings surrounds the church. Via Nebsager Kirkevej, this ensemble marks the eastern approach to Hornsyld. On a walk through the townscape, the view there extends from the ecclesiastical building to the surrounding village structure: the farms and school-related buildings are just as much part of the preserved setting as the church itself. Its location on the eastern edge and the road give the ensemble a clear connection to the town’s approach side.
