Dersekow: Brick Chapel, Village Church and Manor House

Dersekow reveals itself through buildings and archaeological traces from different periods. At Dersekow Village Church, the chapel in the district of Alt Pansow and Klein Zastrow Manor House, visitors encounter a range of evidence: a Late Medieval ornamental gable, a Neo-Gothic brick chapel and a manor house from the late 19th century. Architecture from Different Periods

The east gable of Dersekow Village Church was built as an ornamental gable towards the end of the 15th century. The chapel in Alt Pansow was built in 1841/42 to plans by Carl August Peter Menzel, the University of Greifswald’s master builder. It is a simple Neo-Gothic brick building; its original interior furnishings have been preserved to this day. The year 1892 marks a later point in the history of Klein Zastrow Manor House: the von Vahl family had it built in the Neoclassical style, and their coat of arms can be seen on the manor house. Together, these dated buildings span the period from the late 15th century to the end of the 19th century.

The chapel’s later use is also part of its history. Following its renovation, completed in 2013, the interior in Alt Pansow, decorated in colours based on designs by artist Sil Zobel, hosted concerts and film screenings in summer. Its architectural history is thus complemented by seasonal cultural use.

Archaeological Traces and Natural Surroundings

The megalithic tomb in Klein Zastrow is one of Dersekow’s attractions and is considered appealing to history enthusiasts. Together with the Zastrow female figurine, it is among the archaeological finds that attest to early settlement in the region.
